Machermore Castle is located in South West Scotland. The 22 acre estate is set on a river bank and flanked by rolling hills and fields. It’s an ideal location for a relaxing family holiday as it has all the comforts of your own home, large social areas, big lawns and a beautiful woodland area.
The castle is located walking distance from the small market town of Newton Stewart. The private path into town is a lovely riverside walk through the woodlands and surrounding fields. Newton Stewart offers restaurants, pubs, eateries and a few local shops and grocery stores.
We offer several activities on the estate, such as salmon fishing and kayaking. There are two golf club sets available to borrow for use on one of the many beautiful golf courses in the area. The lawns are ideal for games, barbecues and picnics.
There is ample free parking space on the estate, however if you would rather arrive by plane or helicopter you can make use of the 720ft grass strip or the helicopter landing area on the south lawn.
In the surrounding area there are plenty of activities on offer such as beach visits, kayaking, hunting, mountain biking, golfing or hillwalking. Picturesque historical villages close by include Wigtown, Port Patrick and Kirkcudbright.
The Castle
Situated within 22 acres of beautiful woodland, on the banks of the River Cree, 16th-century Machermore Castle offers a unique experience of castle life. Ideal for special occasions or for family gatherings in beautiful surroundings. The Castle has seven ensuite bedrooms and an apartment attached to it with a further three double bedrooms. The vast commercial kitchen and the ballroom will easily cater for all 20 guests. The ballroom is also ideal for family recreation times with a gym, ping pong table, board games, TV corner and Play station. The Victorian lounge can cater for family meals or simply as place of relaxation by the fire after a day of exploring the Galloway Hills. The apartment has an extra lounge and kitchen for the kids to watch their movies or for the adults to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee.

The Bothy
Our latest renovation on the estate! A beautiful and comfortable three bedroom lodge that used to serve as the gardeners bothy. All wooden floors, clean lines with a lot of light and a beautiful view of the river Cree from the living/dining room. The lodge is an upside down house which has three double bedrooms, kitchen with all the comforts and a spacious open living/dining area. It's the ultimate base for exploring The Galloway Hills.

West Lodge
Our four bedroom lodge is set in a quiet corner of the estate. It has four bedrooms, three double and one with two single beds. The large kitchen/dining area overlooks the garden which is perfect for your afternoon coffee or a family dinner in the evening sun.

South Lodge
Our lodge by the river. This three bedroom lodge has a courtyard at the front and access to a garden at the back with views of the river. It's a fantastic base for activities nearby such as hillwalking, mountain biking, kayaking, kitesurfing or lazy beach days.
